One of my favorite pictures ever. Me, Wayne and Dale at the lake in 1974. Ok, so this is really a test post for the blog as I am putting up a new theme to play with. I don’t know if I like this one more than the others.

Here’s what nobody important had to say about the film.

A new Dirty Dancing Movie was announced recently, apparently Hollywood is indeed going to destroy all our sacred 80′s movies one at a time. It wasn’t bad enough they remade Footloose, but now another Dirty Dancing was inevitable.

Dirty Dancing Remake

The story in the new Dirty Dancing Movie is going to remain the same. The movie is about a young adult named Frances (nicknamed ‘Baby’) who is spending the summer in a holiday camp
with her family. ‘Baby’ falls in love with the camp’s dancing teacher Johnny Castle, originally played by Patrick Swayze. The two have a torrid relationship to start, but fall in love as Frances volunteers to be the lead female dancer in the end of the year dance performance.

The original Dirty Dancing was successful for a few reasons, how will the remake recapture this success is beyond us at this point.

Patrick Swayze – certainly the original film was riding the success of Swazye at the time. He was number one in Hollywood in 1987.

The 80′s – Movies were simpler back in the 80′s. We didn’t need the sex, violence and foul language to appreciate a movie..

The Soundtrack – perhaps the most under-appreciated element to the success of Dirty Dancing was the soundtrack. It drove movie ticket sales, and remained a top selling CD for 9 months.

Who’s In It?

Nobody has confirmed, but rumours are already speculating that Derek Hough could play Johnny Castle and Lea Michele for Baby. We think Julianne Hough would be a great ‘Baby’ if they are serious about remaking Dirty Dancing.

What’s Good About It?

The original was a iconic film that rounded out the 80′s in style.

Not sure why the shirt says 77. Here we are in Stanley Park in 1975. This tree is now gone, the huge windstorms in Vancouver blew over this landmark tree two years ago.

Dad’s 1970 Mach 1 Mustang

There was a time when my dad had a muscle car, but that was before my time. I did the math, my mother was pregnant with me on their 1970 trip to California. They drove their 1970 Mach 1 all the way from the interior of British Columbia to Disneyland, pretty impressive for that day and age. I believe this picture is of the coastal highway, maybe route 66? I don’t know California that well, any help would be awesome.

Dad’s car had a 351 Cleveland and is a collectable these days. After he had me, he had to sell his car and buy more practical vehicles

Flintstone World

This was the best part of Kelowna as a kid, Flintstone World, Bedrock City! This small amusement park had all the characters from the cartoon, and a coupld small rides. They ripped it down some time ago, to make room for housing in the city.

Fishing 1976

Fishing at a lake in British Columbia in ’76 . My aunt and uncle had a neat cabin we loved to go to.

Grandma and Grandpa

This is such a cool picture for me, because its the only one I have of them together. My grandpa died when I was just 3, so I don’t really remember him. We just sold this house not long ago, it has been in the family since the late 40′s.

Kelowna 1976

My aunt and uncle used to live near the canal, and we could float on the tube behind their house. Now Kelowna is full of yuppies, traffic and multi-million dollar homes, its not the same.

You can just see the back of my blonde hair in this cool picture, while my mom and brother look at the dolphin. I love this picture because its so innocent.
